ON PAINTING 2019
Flowers have a symbolic significance and they carry the weight of their meaning, accrued through time. Although when assuming a decorative role, as in textiles, flowers may seem to lose their hierarchical position: for example a discarded patterned dress, through the presence of the absence of the wearer. This transference may acquire a different but equally meaningful significance. In painting a re-presentation of the flower and the textile, the transformative process embodies a narrative which both in its juxtaposition and in their original roles, the painted flowers 'Carry The Weight' of their symbolism without an attendant meaning.
